GCA (UK) Ltd are to provide structural engineering services to the Derby Silk Mill Museum for its £16.4m Museum of Making programme.
The new Museum will celebrate Derby’s heritage as a city of makers through its internationally, regionally and locally significant collections. It will also provide opportunities for local people to gain new skills and experiences and will aim to raise aspirations of future generations of innovators and makers.
GCA will be using an innovative approach to design combining VR technology, parametric geometry and the site’s existing workshop to produce a unique building structure reflecting the ethos of the Museum of Making.
James Thomson, Managing Director, said: “This is a truly innovative project, and GCA are delighted to join an exceptional team. We look forward to delivering this key project for Derby’s cultural sector.”
