Domestic Structural Surveys
GCA regularly carry out structural surveys for home owners and land lords. On buying or selling a property some structural movement may be picked up by the general surveyor and they will advise you to call a Structural Engineer.
There are many factors which can be the root cause of structural movement and we will complete a full visual check to ascertain what is happening to the property.
Once complete a report will be generated which will include commentary on all the elements found, good as well as bad. Conclusions and recommendations will then be made.
If work is required to rectify the problem we can recommend local builders and, if deemed necessary, we can do a repeat visit to check all the remedial actions have been carried out to a good standard.
Commercial Structural Surveys
Our engineers are experienced at assessing a wide range of commercial structures including Public Houses, Apartment Blocks and Schools, Hospitals and Religious Buildings.
A comprehensive report including high definition photographs, of potential problems will be provided as well as conclusions and recommendations. Reports will be provided in hard and digital copy.
These surveys can be undertaken when structural defects have been noted, where there is a proposed change of use or ownership.
Should the survey reveal significant defects the cause can be investigated and the scope of the necessary remedial / strengthening works proposed, quotations sought and the works subsequently supervised to ensure compliance with the proposals.
Where it is proposed that the use of an existing structure is to be changed it is essential that the effect is fully investigated.
When commercial properties are to be brought and sold it is vital that the existing condition of the structure be fully appraised to ensure that the future costs of rectification can be avoided.
Roof Surveys for Solar Panels
With the growth in renewable energy we have been extensively involved in the assessment of existing roofs prior to the fixture of solar panels.
We have worked extensively with several specialist firms which specialise in PV panel installation.
We produce calculations to show whether the proposed installation is in accordance with the following.
- BS 6399-1: Code of practice for dead and imposed loads
- BS 6399-2: Code of practice for wind loads
- BS 6399-3: Code of practice for imposed roof loads
We will identify any problems and provide advice on how to strengthen weak roof structures prior to further works being carried out.
